US Passport Processing Times On The Mend: Latest USCIS News

 The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is reporting that passport processing times are on the mend. The agency is now processing routine passport applications within 8-11 weeks, down from a high of 18 weeks earlier this year.


This is good news for travelers who are planning to  renew their passports or apply for a new one. However, it is important to note that these are just estimates, and processing times can vary depending on a number of factors, such as the volume of applications, the complexity of the application, and whether or not the applicant is requesting expedited processing.


If you are planning to travel internationally, it is important to check your US passport status well in advance. You can do this by visiting the USCIS website or by calling the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778.


If you need to renew your passport, you can submit your application online, by mail, or in person at a passport acceptance facility. If you are applying for a new passport, you must submit your application in person.


The USCIS is also offering expedited processing for passport applications. This service is available for applicants who have an urgent need to travel, such as for a medical emergency or a family member's death. Expedited processing costs an additional $60 and typically takes 3-5 business days.
